Core Function
Transition is what permeability feels like when you are no longer in charge of the change.
The structure held. Perhaps it kept you safe for years. Then an event, a person or the consequences of an earlier choice reach the fragile edge and the whole arrangement loses its authority. This is not a gentle change of perspective. The walls were a comfort. Now they are not there.
The Tower is difficult because the loss is real. Calling it natural does not make it nice.
Natural Pattern
Remove a container and its contents fall out. The structure was not merely trapping what it held; it was giving it shape. Once it breaks, you discover which parts depended on the walls.
Autumn makes this boundary-crossing visible through loss. The Equilibrium tradition emerged in the Northern Hemisphere, but the exact local image matters less than the experience: an outside change reaches you, and the old form cannot contain it.
Mirror Pair
Pollination and Transition are both phase-five cards. Pollination opens outwards and accepts influence from a larger system. Transition turns that crossing inward: an outside force challenges the systems, institutions or beliefs that once strengthened your will.
The change may follow your own decision to break a cage. It may simply happen to you. Once the structure gives way, control over the outcome is limited either way.
Progression
Transition becomes Hibernation when the old landmarks have gone and you have to find what can guide you from within. The Tower does not guarantee that you will rebuild well. It leaves the question exposed.
Hibernation begins with the principles that remain visible in the dark, then asks what you might build around them.
When It Gets Stuck
The teaching does not yet establish a fixed reversed meaning for Transition. A working proposal is that collapse becomes the only available state: the old structure has lost its power, but choosing a principle for what follows would create another commitment. So you remain among the ruins and call movement another trap.
What would you have to value in order to take the first step beyond the collapse?
Questions
- What has exposed the fragile edge of your structure?
- Which lost wall was also a comfort?
- What can no longer tell you who you are?
